Every year, around this time, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announces its newly elected members.
The below post was written prior to the 10AM announcement today and for the press release with names of newly elected 2013 NAE members, just released, click here:
********************************************************************************************
The official announcement is to take place at 10AM today but I like to do research and have uncanny intuition and caught that the NAE website in its Members Directory has already posted, by name, the 2013 newly elected members.
The link to the 2013 list is here and the names are in alphabetical order.
If there is a problem with the link just click on the 2013 year and you will see the list as I did.
Congratulations to all those on the list! There are quite a few representatives from industry and a few female names on the list.
How many names do you recognize? Do you know any personally?
Last year, I wrote a post on knowing several elected to the NAE in 2012.

Congratulations to the Newly Elected 2012 National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Members!
Congratulations to the 2012 newly elected NAE members; the announcement was just released!
Click here for the full list.
I was delighted to see some names that I recognized including Peter Glynn of Stanford University, Scott Shenker of UC Berkeley, and Christine Shoemaker of Cornell University. The latter two I know, which is quite exciting.
In addition, the foreign associates include Professor Frank P. Kelly from the University of Cambridge, U.K., whose work I often cite and vice-versa, and Professor Andrés Weintraub from the University of Chile, Santiago, who is well-known in Operations Research. Professor Weintraub and I are both on the editorial board of the International Transactions in Operational Research.
This year there are 66 new members elected and 10 foreign associates.

Congrats to Newly Elected NAE Members (with a Great Group of INFORMS Members)!
Congratulations to the 2011 newly inducted Members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)!
This group includes several very well-known INFORMS members, and I must say it is a very successful and deserving group -- John Birge of the University of Chicago, Amedeo Odoni of MIT, William Cook of Georgia Tech, Chris Hendrickson of CMU, and Christos Floudas of Princeton (who may not be an INFORMS member but is renowned in global optimization). Interestingly, both Odoni and Hendrickson work in transportation.
Congratulations to all, and if I missed someone from our professional society, I apologize.
John Birge spoke in our Speaker Series at UMass Amherst a few semesters ago and was terrific. The last time I saw him was at the Measuring System Risk conference that took place in Chicago, December 15-16, 2010.
As for Amedeo Odoni, he was a dear friend of my dissertation advisor at Brown, Stella Dafermos, and together we wrote a tribute to her in Transportation Science. He was also the recipient of the Robert Herman Lifetime Achievement Award in Transportation Science in 2001.
Time to celebrate!

Congratulations to Newly Inducted Members of the National Academy of Engineering (who are also INFORMS Members)!
The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has announced the newly elected members for 2010.
This group includes INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) members: Dr. Cynthia Barnhart, the Associate Dean of Engineering at MIT, Dr. Hau Lee, of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and the former editor of the journal Management Science, and Dr. William Pulleyblank, a Vice President of IBM.
Dr. Barnhart spoke in the Speaker Series that the UMass Amherst INFORMS Student Chapter and I organize (in our Fall 2006 Series). It was a pleasure to host her. Dr. Barnhart is a past President of INFORMS.
Congratulations to all the newly elected members!
