Doctoral Students in Operations Research and Management Science from UMass Amherst Ready for INFORMS Phoenix

I am so proud of the doctoral students that are part of our great UMass Amherst INFORMS Student Chapter!

The officers work so hard in building a community through various professional and social events and the members are actively involved in publicizing our various events and in taking part in them.

I have been the Faculty Advisor of this award-winning student chapter since 2004 and it gives me great satisfaction to see our students develop as scholars and also as leaders.

Last Friday, the students hosted a Tune Up for the INFORMS Conference at the Isenberg School of Management with doctoral students in Management Science and in Industrial Engineering and Operations research taking part. The INFORMS Conference will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, October 14-17, 2012.

Just looking at the photos one can feel the exciting research that is being done and also the excitement that the students feel in sharing it with an audience.

This was a great event.

My doctoral student, Amir H. Masoumi, gave the first talk, "A Dynamic Network Oligopoly Model for Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Networks Under Brand Differentiation and Perishability,"  
which is based on a paper that was recently published in Transportation Research E, and was co-authored with me, and a doctoral student who is now an Assistant Professor. Dr. Min Yu.

My doctoral student, Dong "Michelle" Li, gave the last (sixth) talk, "A Dynamic Network Oligopoly Model with Transportation Costs, Product Differentiation and Quality Competition,"  at this event. 

Soon they will be delivering their talks in Phoenix!

Women in Operations Research and the Management Sciences (WORMS) Events at the INFORMS Phoenix Conference

Conferences are wonderful venues at which we learn a lot from the presentations, reconnect with colleagues, make new friends, attend special business meetings and award ceremonies, and come back regenerated, reinvigorated, and refreshed.

When it comes to INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences), the annual conference is always a fabulous meeting place and this year it is taking place in Phoenix, Arizona, October 14-17, 2012.

One of my favorite FORA  is WORMS (Women in Operations Research and the Management Sciences) and its activities at the annual conference should not be missed, from the WORMS luncheon to various specially-organized panels.

We today received a message from the WORMS President, Dr. Esma Gel, summarizing all the WORMS activities in Phoenix and, for purposes of communications, and generating more interest, I am reprinting the message below.
